kids shoes typically separate into three sizing categories: infant (size 0-5), kids (size: 5.5 - 13.5), and youth (size 1 - 7).
we currently carry children's U.S. sizes 8 kids (aka toddler) through size 4.5 youth, including whole and half sizes (availability varies by style). we estimate that PLAE shoes fit kids ages 2 ½ to 8 years. please refer to our kids shoe size conversion chart if you have any questions about your child’s foot length and corresponding size in U.S., European or U.K. sizing. got more questions about finding the right fit, check out our kids shoe fit page.

shoe sizing should not just be length and width, as feet are 3-dimensional objects! PLAE shoes come with unique, interchangeable velcro straps (aka tabs) that come in 4 sizes for a more complete fit. use a smaller tab for a narrower fit, or a longer tab for a higher instep or wider fit.
|tab sizing chart|
|tab size||shoe size||tab length (in)||tab length (mm)|
|small||8-9||3 ½"||90 mm|
|large||13-3||4 ⅓"||110 mm|
|extra-large||3.5-4.5, high instep, orthotic||5"||125 mm|
PLAE shoes can accommodate kids with wide feet. there are usually 2 areas that make for a "wider" foot, and PLAE designed shoes with that in mind. if your child's foot is wider at the base, the roomier toe box, removable insoles, and wide opening in PLAE shoes may help with the fit.
if your child's foot is thicker along the girth, or instep, moving up a tab size to a large or extra large is recommended.
the interchangeable tabs also help accommodate AFOs (ankle-foot orthotics). to fit an AFO or other orthotic, choose a large or extra-large tab. if the AFO is only on one foot, use the longer tabs for one shoe and keep the regular tabs on the other shoe.
"so many shoes are ruled out because they wont close over the AFO. we ordered a size 8 shoe and bought size large straps for the upper strap. no stress! the shoes close."

measure both the shoe size and tab size by printing the PLAE fit kit to determine the best fit for your child's foot. be sure to measure with your child wearing their orthotic. you can also reference our tab lengths on our sizing page.
if you are not quite sure if your child's brace will work with our shoes, or if you are not sure on the size, just send us two photos with their braces or orthotics on. for the first picture, have your child stand directly on the PLAE fit kit and take a picture directly down (birds-eye view) so we can see the length and width of your child's feet. for the second picture, take a side view of your child's foot so we can determine the right size tabs. simple email the two photos to email@example.com and we'll have our fit expert give you our best recommendation. while we'll do everything we can to find the best recommended fit, you know your child's feet best and should decide what size will be best based on your personal experience with their fit and previous shoes worn.
